STARR Group for Children and Caregivers (In-Person and Telehealth options)

STARR is a relational based trauma informed approach based on knowledge of early childhood development, impact of trauma on the brain and body, the sensory systems, individual differences, social emotional development, and the nervous system. STARR aims to provide the education and individualized practical tools that caregivers and children can use to heal from trauma and begin to form more positive bonds and behaviors. STARR is especially effective in conjunction with Intensive In-Community services. Families can continue to implement the strategies they have learned with the support of Licensed clinicians, however, STARR can be effective on its own. FTxCS will provide weekly groups for parents and children followed by 9 monthly support groups for participating caregivers.

Outpatient Social Skills Group for Children ages 8-15  (In-Person and Telehealth options)

The objective of a social group is to encourage the nurturing of new relationships while developing the skills needed to strengthen existing relationships in the client’s life. The
integration of group discussions and community based activities provides opportunities for the expansion of interests with same age peers and the enhanced ability to enjoy one’s time within a controlled environment that minimizes the risks of feeling abandoned, unwanted, or
invalidated.
In these open, outpatient groups, clients would have the opportunity each week to interact with peers that have been selected for each group based on maturity, age, and social functionality. Because some children have special needs and considerations, the demographics of each group would vary depending on the needs of those involved. Not all social groups would have the same objectives, but would always focus on practicing basic social skills and appropriate social behaviors. This may include active listening, speaking in front of others, asking for help when needed, creating shared experiences with others, fostering mutual respect and sportsmanship with other group members, and learning new things about the world, their interests, and the lives of others.

Outpatient Social and Emotional Skills Group for Children ages 5-7  (In-Person and Telehealth options)

The objective of a social and emotional group is to encourage the nurturance of new relationships while developing the skills needed to strengthen existing relationships in the client’s life. Simultaneously, the expression and enhanced understanding of emotions for younger children will be explored in appropriate ways with guidance from a mental health clinician with the intention of practicing healthier ways of expressing needs and regulating emotional discomfort. The integration of group games and activities provides opportunities for the expansion of interests with same age peers and the enhanced ability to enjoy one’s time within a controlled environment that minimizes the risks of feeling abandoned, unwanted, or invalidated.

In these open, outpatient groups, clients will have the opportunity each week to interact with peers that have been selected for each group based on age and clinical need.
